We made it back to Kansas City and are driving home. We had to wake up early (4:15) to get on the shuttle to head to the airport. Everything at the airport went smoothly! Teddy made lots of friends in the terminal with fist bumps. After spilling Thom's drink all over Thom, Teddy decided that was enough hard work for the morning and took a little nap. We enjoy flying Southwest; we've had good experiences. This flight one flight attendant made Teddy a blown up glove like a balloon for a toy to play with and he gave Thom a cup with a lid and a straw after the spill. Just very kind.  After cramming as many humans and luggage as possible into the shuttle we made our way to the car and are now on or way home. It was a fantastic trip!!

Our last full day of our vacation! What an amazing trip!!! Today Teddy woke up rather early (this seems to be becoming a habit...) but it was okay because that gave us an earlier start on cleaning the cottage and heading out of town. We were able to clean up and load up by 8:30 to head our trek back toward Boston.  Dad has done all the driving this trip so Thom, Teddy, and I were able to catch up on a little sleep while we drove. Our only stop on our drive back was the Portland Head Light. Portland Head Light was built under the directive of President George Washington and was completed in 1791 using a fund of $1,500, established by him.  It is the oldest head light in the state of Maine (and the most beautiful one we saw). We had intended on stopping at the Portland Head Light on our way to Acadia, but it was raining so we chose to skip it; I am glad we decided to stop by on our way back through. It was absolutely beautiful. The sky was partially cloudy which created some perfect ph

This morning we (Thom, Dad, and I...Mom stayed with Teddy) woke up early to try to beat the crowd at the Beehive Hike again.  We got there earlier, but there were more people on the trail.  I'm glad we redid it because there were parts of the hike that I didn't remember. Thom used an app on his phone to map our hike. It took us 24 minutes and 53 seconds to reach the summit.  This time on the way down we decided to do the Bowl Trail.  The Bowl Trail goes partially around a lake. At different parts the trail was rocky and then on wooden planks and then through the forest. The Bowl Trail leads back to where the Beehive started. When we approached that area we saw a group of people looking up at the Beehive Trail. I had not seen it from down below before and I am glad I didn't see it until after I was done hiking it. It looks a lot worse looking up at it than what it seemed climbing it. We then drove back to the condo to pick up Mom and Teddy so we could do the Great Head Hik

We started late this morning so we weren't able to do the Ocean Trail before the cruise ship came in and more people arrived. Once everyone was moving we headed to Cadillac Mountain. Unfortunately, we realized on the way there that we have a nail in the tire causing a small leak of air, so we'll have to take care of that later. Cadillac Mountain is over 1,500 feet in elevation and is the first spot the sun hits in US in the morning. They sell tickets to be able to see the sunrise. As I did research for this trip many people said it as a definite must do, but I don't think we'll be doing that. From Cadillac Mountain you can see for miles. We could see the tide starting to go low and the land to Bar Island was becoming exposed. The lookout area was very nice to walk around; it was a bigger area than I expected. Teddy almost fell asleep on the ride up to Cadillac Mountain so we didn't spend much time there so we could get back and Teddy could take a nap. After we p

Teddy was quite the early riser this morning, but of all days to rise early, today was a good one because I wanted to get moving today. One of the things that I have been looking forward to this entire trip is the Beehive Trail. It was suggested to go on the Beehive Trail earlier in the morning (before 9:00) to avoid the rush of people. We (Thom, Dad and I) were lucky to get there around 8/8:30 and there wasn't a crowd yet. Mom and Teddy stayed at the condo and went to the park. I had read that this was not a good trail for kids. The trail began with a very rocky terrain which led into larger boulders. Rungs were necessary for parts of the trail. I'm sure it was very doable without the rungs, but they sure made me feel safer having them.  The views as we climbed were absolutely incredible. We stopped multiple times along the way to take it all in.  The hike down had its moments of difficulty, but for the most part it was a relatively easy hike down.  Going up was by far more ex
