We started late this morning so we weren't able to do the Ocean Trail before the cruise ship came in and more people arrived. Once everyone was moving we headed to Cadillac Mountain. Unfortunately, we realized on the way there that we have a nail in the tire causing a small leak of air, so we'll have to take care of that later.
Cadillac Mountain is over 1,500 feet in elevation and is the first spot the sun hits in US in the morning. They sell tickets to be able to see the sunrise. As I did research for this trip many people said it as a definite must do, but I don't think we'll be doing that. From Cadillac Mountain you can see for miles. We could see the tide starting to go low and the land to Bar Island was becoming exposed. The lookout area was very nice to walk around; it was a bigger area than I expected. Teddy almost fell asleep on the ride up to Cadillac Mountain so we didn't spend much time there so we could get back and Teddy could take a nap.
After we put Teddy down Dad went to get the tire checked out and Thom and I went to Bridge Street to walk across the land revealed at low tide. We walked to Bar Island and then walked about a half mile to the summit of the Island. There were a decent amount of people on the land, but it didn't feel overly crowded. The past two days there have been cruise ships that have docked.
After Teddy woke up we headed back to Acadia to walk the Ocean Path. It was picturesque Maine. There was the sand beach, rocky beaches, cliffs, forest, boulders and beauty all over. The path had many inlets where we could walk a very short way off the path and get a different view. The majestic beauty and variety of this trail was amazing. Absolutely loved this trail. From Sand Beach it went to Thunder Hole. Thunder Hole is a crevice in the rocks that when it is about 2 hours before high tide it makes a thunder-like noise. We were there during low tide so there was not much of a thundering noise...it was more like sloshing. We spent some time climbing on the boulders. Teddy enjoys seeing the birds. Dad and I climbed down to what I believe was Little Hunter's Beach. There were stacks of rocks that people had done. One was made to look like a dog! The trail then leads to Otter Cliff and Otter Point. There were rock climbers climbing Otter Cliff.
Sidenote: Teddy is very into fist bumping right now. I wish I would have started a count of how many strangers he has made smile by asking them for a fist bump. We are well over 100. There are lots of fist bumps on the trails.
After the trail we headed to the Jordan Pond Restaurant. In all the blogs I've read they suggest eating the popovers at Jordan Pond, so that is exactly what we did. Dad got some salmon also. The popovers surprised me a bit. I've never had a popover, so maybe they're all like this, but it was hollow and rather flavorless. I added butter and Maine strawberry jam. It tasted good and I'm glad we got them to experience it, but it wasn't a life changing food experience. I also got a blueberry mojito which was yummy. For an early dessert Mom got a blueberry crisp, which she shared. It was very good! Teddy sure loved it!! After fist bumping our way out of the restaurant we headed back to the condo.
Thom, Teddy, and I decided to walk downtown to start checking out some of the shops. There are a ton of shops (and all very reasonably priced). We only made it partially through the shops tonight and will continue through more tomorrow. We stopped at a very neat wood crafting store that had a huge rocking horse. Teddy liked riding it. After Thom grabbed a slice of pizza from Rosalie's we were on our way back to the condo. Mom and Dad also walked the downtown area after us, but I missed their text so we didn't know they were doing there!
Tomorrow is our last full day in Bar Harbor. We've started creating a plan for tomorrow so it should be a great day!
