This morning we (Thom, Dad, and I...Mom stayed with Teddy) woke up early to try to beat the crowd at the Beehive Hike again.  We got there earlier, but there were more people on the trail.  I'm glad we redid it because there were parts of the hike that I didn't remember. Thom used an app on his phone to map our hike. It took us 24 minutes and 53 seconds to reach the summit.  This time on the way down we decided to do the Bowl Trail.  The Bowl Trail goes partially around a lake. At different parts the trail was rocky and then on wooden planks and then through the forest. The Bowl Trail leads back to where the Beehive started. When we approached that area we saw a group of people looking up at the Beehive Trail. I had not seen it from down below before and I am glad I didn't see it until after I was done hiking it. It looks a lot worse looking up at it than what it seemed climbing it.

We then drove back to the condo to pick up Mom and Teddy so we could do the Great Head Hike. I had read that it was a relatively easy hike so I didn't think there would be much of an issue, but right off the bat there were large rocks to climb.  It did level off a bit and eventually we got to part of the trail that was forest floored and relatively flat, so we wondered if we started off not on the trail. The trail started and ended by crossing the Sand Beach.  The beach was very pretty but the water was freezing. We didn't stay at the beach because sand + 1.5 year old = very messy.

After the hike we went to the west side of the island. The west side is less popular, but still has Acadia National Park in parts. There is a loop that goes around the west side that we decided to do.  It didn't take as long as what we thought it would. It was good timing for the drive because Teddy was able to take a nap on the car.  Along the way there was a super cute little pie shop. I assume it was next to the owner's house and was right on the highway.  It was probably a little bit bigger than a typical backyard shed, but it was used for making fresh pies daily! They had three types of pie: blueberry, strawberry rhubarb, and wild triple berry. We got the blueberry. She said the berries are were frozen from last years' supply and that there are 6 cups of berries in each pie. They are juicy on purpose and not super sweet. We decided to save it for a treat for later.

Next we stopped at the Bass Head Light (the lighthouse in Acadia). It was neat to see but there was nothing special about it.

By this time we were hungry. In a book that was at the condo that we borrowed I had read about a restaurant called Thurston Lobster Pound. Thurston's was a quintessential Maine restaurant with lobster cages all around. Sitting on the harbor, you ordered at a bar when you came in. The bar housed the live lobsters that were caught this morning. Dad and I ordered lobster so they grabbed our lobsters, weighed them, and away they went. We were able to get a table outside on the deck to enjoy our lunches, but the majority of the seats were in screened in porch areas. Dad ordered mussels with his so we had mussels as an appetizer. They were good! Then our lunch came. The lobster meal came with corn, coleslaw, and blueberry cake. The lobster was delicious. Dad got a bloody mary to drink and it had part of a lobster in it. Teddy, once again, went around and fist bumped people.

After lunch we headed to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center (for Acadia) to get Teddy a passport for the national parks. We were able to get some photos outside big park sign too.  Teddy's passport book has all of the national parks and monuments in it. When you go to any of them you get a stamp with the date to show you were there. You can also get a sticker.  Thom and I are sharing a small passport book (the small ones don't list out and have a spot for each place) and Dad got one, too! Tomorrow we're hoping to get back to Boston Fenuil's Hall in enough time to be able to get the stamp for the Freedom Trail which we did earlier on the trip.

With a quick stop at the condo we were on our way by foot to the downtown Bar Harbor area to walk around the shops.  We took the shore path trail along the harbor to get to the downtown area. I catch myself scanning the rock beaches for Thom's hat that was lost on the boat ride, but no luck. The location of our condo has been fantastic. It is a short walk to downtown Bar Harbor and a quick drive to Acadia; couldn't have been better! We did a little souvenir shopping, but not much. It is always interesting to see what they are selling. There were some very neat shirts, but nothing I couldn't live without. We once again stopped by one of Thom's new favorite pizza places, Rosalie's. He is in love with that place!!

When we all got back to the condo we had the blueberry pie with ice cream. It was so yummy! The baker described it right- not too sweet, not too tart, juicy, full of berries. So delicious. If you every visit Mount Desert Island, you have to stop along Highway 102 near Southwest Harbor for a pie at the super cute pie shop.

Tomorrow we head back to Boston so we can catch our flight early on Sunday. Acadia was absolutely beautiful.  If you ever have the chance to go; go. You won't regret it.
