Boston and Maine Adventures

This morning we began our adventure in Camden. Teddy was up early and went to breakfast with Grandma and Papa; I joined shortly after. The Country Inn had a nice breakfast spread. It included quiche, biscuits and gravy, cereal, waffles, bagels, pastries, fruit, and more. Once we were finished with breakfast, Teddy and I played on the playground for a little while. When it was close to 8:30 we went and woke up Thom so he could go swimming with us. Teddy was rather unsure about the pool.  The last time he was in the pool was when he was about 8 months old. He liked it and would kick his legs. This time he hung on pretty tightly to Thom and I. After we were cleaned up and packed up we decided to head to Camden Harbor. The Harbor was beautiful!!! A man at breakfast recommended turning near the library and finding the little path that went along the harbor...and we did just that! It was gorgeous! The downtown area of Camden had some adorable shops. Thom and I found some shirts we like...

Today we headed up the coast to our destination for the evening, Camden.  This morning was a little "on your own" time. Dad and Mom went to pick up the rental car near Harvard. They were able to walk on campus on their way to the rental car shop.  Thom was able to work out during this time and Teddy and I hung out and watched cartoons in the hotel room.  Once Mom and Dad arrived back with our rental van we loaded up and headed out of Boston toward our first stop of Ogunquit, Maine. Ogunquit (and our next stop, Kennebunkport) were suggested to Thom and I by Vern, a tour guide on our recent DC trip. He grew up in Maine and suggested these locations as stopping points along our journey to Acadia.  Our first stop in Ogunquit was for lunch at Barnacle Billy's. I found this restaurant online and it had raving reviews.  They had an outdoor porch, so we enjoyed lunch on the water.  Teddy had a cheeseburger but tried lobster for the first time.  Thom and I sh...

Happy Father's Day! Teddy has started to adjust to Eastern time and woke up a little earlier today.  We hit the road early today so we could get in as much of Boston as we could on our last day.  Our first stop was the CityView Hop on/Hop off trolley.  We decided to do the entire loop for the first time so we could hear all the history and see where the various stops would be. Our tour guide was "Uncle Steve" and he was great! On the second loop around we got off at stop #2 which was by Paul Revere's house.  We walked to and toured his house.  Much of it was restored but some things were original.  What I find so interesting is that Paul Revere didn't become famous until after his death.  Lincoln wanted something to "speak" to young people about fighting in the civil war so the poem "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" was written. After visiting Revere's House we walked a block or so over to the popular Mike's Pastry. I read about it...

Another packed full day!! We slept in again this morning and started today's adventures at the Sam Adams Brewery. What a great tour!! I don't even like beer and I would highly suggest it. There were only two stops before the tasting room, but our tour guide, Tomas, was great. We got to taste barley and we used our hands to create friction to activate the hops. Once in the tasting room it was a "go at your own pace" time. We tried the first beer by smelling, and looking, and swirling the beer, but then they kept bringing out pitchers of different types of beer to try (yes, this was at about 10:45/11:00am...). I tried them all and actually really liked the "Love Conquers Ale" beer which was created this week for Pride Week.  This particular brewery doesn't produce a lot of beer that goes out for retail, but rather it is more of an experimental brewery where they create new recipes and try new things.
