Another packed full day!! We slept in again this morning and started today's adventures at the Sam Adams Brewery. What a great tour!! I don't even like beer and I would highly suggest it. There were only two stops before the tasting room, but our tour guide, Tomas, was great. We got to taste barley and we used our hands to create friction to activate the hops. Once in the tasting room it was a "go at your own pace" time. We tried the first beer by smelling, and looking, and swirling the beer, but then they kept bringing out pitchers of different types of beer to try (yes, this was at about 10:45/11:00am...). I tried them all and actually really liked the "Love Conquers Ale" beer which was created this week for Pride Week. This particular brewery doesn't produce a lot of beer that goes out for retail, but rather it is more of an experimental brewery where they create new recipes and try new things. Once we finished the tasting we checked out the gift shop and Mom and Teddy played shuffleboard.
We then headed back to the hotel in hopes that Teddy would be able to get a nap. Mom stayed with Teddy for a nap while Dad, Thom, and I made the mile trek from the hotel to the JFK Library and Museum. I liked learning more about Kennedy's life. The library and museum overlooks the harbor and there is a beautiful glass space that allows you to look out. We quickly grabbed lunch and ate on the run to meet Mom and Teddy at the subway station to head to downtown.
Our next stop was the Duck Tour. It was a great tour! We drove by many important things and it was nice to hear the history from another tour guide. As all the duck tours do, we even went in the water. Teddy was amused for awhile, but he is in a stage where he does NOT want to sit still.
Once we got off the Duck we headed to the aquarium where there are seals outside of the aquarium. Teddy really enjoyed watching them swim by him.
We then headed to Legal Sea Foods for dinner. Dad and I are more of the seafood lovers on this trip so we were excited. Dad and I tried an oyster and got a bowl of the clam chowder to share. I had read on a blog that this restaurant had excellent clam chowder--it wasn't lying! The oyster wasn't horrible either. Both Dad and I put some cocktail sauce on it so to me, it tasted like slimy shrimp. For dinner Dad and I got the Crab Cakes Combo (shrimp, crab cake, scallops, salad) while Thom and Mom got burgers. Teddy ate off of Thom and my plate. He enjoyed the shrimp more than the crab cake. I also got a white wine flight--the first one was the best; it had a hit of green apple. Dinner was absolutely delicious!
We then worked our way to the Boston Common. We walked by some of the places we had stopped on our tour yesterday. By this time, things seemed to be calming down and weren't quite as crowded. We stopped at the playground in the Common and Teddy enjoyed the slide. There is an artist, Sidewalk Sam, who uses chalk to create beautiful works of art on the subway buildings and in the Common. It is not graffiti because it washes away. We then walked through the Common to the Cheers bar. We sat at the set bar and enjoyed a drink.
We have been using the T (subway) system a lot. I enjoy taking the subway. There are many convenient stops near popular destinations. It is clean and relatively easy to maneuver.
It is fascinating to listen to people talk from Boston; I'm still not used to the accent. Bostonians are very kind. We actually made it back at 9:30ish and put Teddy down at a decent time. Poor buddy isn't getting much sleep. Hopefully he'll catch up when we start the drive to Maine.
