Tuesday, June 19, 2018- Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

This morning we began our adventure in Camden. Teddy was up early and went to breakfast with Grandma and Papa; I joined shortly after. The Country Inn had a nice breakfast spread. It included quiche, biscuits and gravy, cereal, waffles, bagels, pastries, fruit, and more. Once we were finished with breakfast, Teddy and I played on the playground for a little while. When it was close to 8:30 we went and woke up Thom so he could go swimming with us. Teddy was rather unsure about the pool.  The last time he was in the pool was when he was about 8 months old. He liked it and would kick his legs. This time he hung on pretty tightly to Thom and I. After we were cleaned up and packed up we decided to head to Camden Harbor.

The Harbor was beautiful!!! A man at breakfast recommended turning near the library and finding the little path that went along the harbor...and we did just that! It was gorgeous! The downtown area of Camden had some adorable shops. Thom and I found some shirts we liked...unfortunately it was the same shirt....so now we have matching shirts....and yes, we got one for Teddy, too....So, yes, we now have a family set of matching Maine shirts... :/  For lunch we ate at the Sea Dog Brewery.  My naked (no mayonnaise or seasoning-just warm lobster+ butter) lobster roll and roasted brussel sprouts were very yummy.

Once we were finished with the harbor our plan was to go to the top of Mount Battie but the route we took took us to a stop where we were going to have to walk awhile and Teddy had just fallen asleep, so we decided to keep trekking ahead to our next stop of Castine.

Castine was suggested to us by our DC guide, Vern.  It was a tiny town in a peninsula that was home to the Dyce Head Lighthouse. As we walked around the lighthouse I could hear Mom and Dad talking with someone.  It was the woman who lives at and is the caretaker of the lighthouse.  She is also a teacher. Today was her last day of school. Being a tiny town, Castine has one school, PK-8, which has 50 children total. She teaches PK and Kindergarten and has a class of 5 children. Because PK (4 students) is only half day, she had one student for the other half of the day. She said they would go to her house and go to the shore and do so much hands-on learning because it was 1:1. Can you imagine only having 1 student (or even 5) to teach?! How crazy!! The lighthouse and the view was beautiful. We toured the town (which didn't take long) and stopped at the museum.  After Castine we were on our way to Bar Harbor.

We arrived around dinner time at our condo in Bar Harbor. After unloading the suitcases and setting up Teddy's bed we decided to head toward town to find a place for dinner.  It was much busier in the downtown area than I expected.  Hopefully it won't be so crazy in Acadia.  We decided to eat at the Thirsty Whale Tavern (I had read about it on some blog). After dinner we headed to the grocery store and then retreated to the condo.  I think everyone was a little tired tonight!

Tomorrow we are going to Acadia!
